Educational Board Game

MEME’s board game 'Trunk Tales' was created in conjunction with celebrating World Environmental Day 2024 by Dr Hjh Yatela Zainal Abidin, Chief Executive Officer of Yayasan Sime Darby. Enjoy the trailer below to see a glimpse of our creation! Our board game draws inspiration from the real-life struggles of humans and elephants coexisting in Malaysia. Using research and stories from the MEME's work with stakeholders, we created a game that reflects these challenges authentically while ensuring it's fun to play whilst easy to comprehend the complexity of achieving coexistence. We also aimed to engage both rural and urban communities in this sensitive issue, helping them understand the sentiments of all stakeholders, including the elephants.

Management and Ecology of Malaysian Elephants (MEME) is a research collaboration between the University of Nottingham Malaysia and the Department of Wildlife & National Parks of Peninsular Malaysia (PERHILITAN) established since 2012. MEME’s aim is to use science to develop an evidence-based approach towards protection and conservation of Asian elephants in Peninsular Malaysia. We work with traditional & non-traditional stakeholders to promote human-elephant coexistence, enhance safety for people in shared landscapes, manage conflict, and carry out scientific research that supports conservation action on the ground. MEME is involved with the IUCN Species Survival Commission's Asian Elephant Specialist Group (AsESG) and Human-Wildlife Conflict and Coexistence Specialist Group (HWCCSG). We are a member of the IUCN Protected Areas and Conservation Connectivity's Asian Elephant Transport Working Group (AsETWG).

Fisheries and Marine Scientist (Aquaculture)
How does environmental DNA in two different depths reveal the existence of Bali Sardine in Bali Strait-Indonesia?

The current project's end goals are aimed to support UN sustainable development goals (i.e., life below water and zero hunger). The commercial use of Bali Sardine can be developed as a capsule supplement containing high Omega-3, improving people's physical health and mental health.

I'm an Indonesian scientist who grew up surrounded by books, fascinated by science, and passionate about research into action. Because of the severe overfishing and decline in the number of Bali Sardines in recent decades in Indonesia's Bali Strait, I was driven to expand my understanding of environmental DNA (eDNA) and its usage in tracing the species. Additionally, I calculate the fish diversity in the Bali Strait and Southern East Java, Indonesia. At last, we will preserve only what we adore, cherish only what we learn, and comprehend only what we are taught.
